The worlds cheapest car in the market today is Tata Nano, made by Tata Motors, India. A brand new Nano costs only $2500 and experts predicted this to be a big hit in the world car market as well as in the Indian streets. But In reality world's cheapest car has also turned out to be world's biggest flop so far.

It's true that Tata motors fulfilled their promise of developing a car that would fit the budget of buying a car for medium & lower classes, but while doing that they got into trouble. According to the technology reviews Nano is often compared to the auto rickshaws which are seen in most developing Asian countries.

Surveys conducted by Tata motors also declared that Nano has primarily been designed keeping in mind the lower income class in India.

Tata motors seem to be very motivated about the sales of Nano. During the launch period company set up the sales target of 25,000 units/month or 300,000 units/year, but unfortunately company could sell only 75,000 units in a year. Such a big disaster!

And now the company is even struggling to attract the lower societies. Recently company have put up the car in various supermarkets & also upgraded the basic version of the car with fusion & diesel alternatives.

Experts will be now keenly watching how consumers react to the new 2012 Nano while the new Diesel variant of the Nano is also expected to be launched by the first quarter of 2012.

Do you like the look of Nano?

  • Yeah, it's cool
  • Nah, it's pathetic

I really don't know what to think. Your hub didn't say why people didn't like it. Did it meet the safety standards? Was it too small to be comfortable? Was the performance substandard? Those were the questions going through my mind.
